Abstract:
A large number of theatres have been built in China in the past two decades. There is still lack of similar researches on reverberation time characteristic of these theatres. In this paper, 50 typical grand theaters with more than 1 200 seats in China are selected. Based on the measured data, the reverberation time distribution and the correlation of reverberation time with early decay time, clarity, definition and audience volume of the auditorium are analyzed. It is found that the reverberation time of grand theatres in China is shorter than that of foreign opera houses with the same size in the world; the reverberation time is generally longer than early decay time; clarity and definition decreases with the increase of the reverberation time, and the degree of change is obvious; domestic acoustic designers meet the indicators of reverberation time by controlling the volume and sound absorption simultaneously, however, the reverberation time does not show significant changes with the volume of auditorium. This paper could provide a reference for the architectural acoustic design of the grand theater in China.
