The influence of garden soundscape perception on tourists' mood state —Take the Jin Ancestral Temple Scenic Area as an example

Abstract: The garden, as a unique art form, has rich soundscape resources. It is of great significance to study the influence of soundscape perception on tourists' mood state for the physical and mental health of the tourists, the cultural value of garden soundscape features, and sustainable development. This paper selects the classical garden Jin Ancestral Hall as the research object, identifying 14 sound sources. The impact of soundscape perception on positive, relaxed, and social moods was studied through field measurements, questionnaire surveys, Geographic Information System mapping of sound pressure level distribution, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling. The results show that the sound environment is quiet. In terms of sound source perception, natural sound dominates, followed by artificial sound, with unique sounds like bells, drums, Buddha music, and tower bells. For soundscape perception, artificial sound harmony has a positive impact on the quietness of the soundscape, and both natural sound and artificial sound harmony have a positive impact on the soundscape richness. For mood state, natural sound harmony, characteristic sound harmony, and soundscape richness all have a positive impact on the positive state of tourists, while natural sound harmony, soundscape quietness, and soundscape richness all have a positive impact on the relaxation state. Based on these findings, it is suggested that Jinci should plan tourism routes around sound sources, focusing on sounds like bells, drums, Buddha music, and tower bells to highlight its unique soundscape culture. At the design level, priority should be given to enhancing the harmony of natural and artificial sounds in order to improve the mood of tourists.
