An optimization algorithm for multistatic sonar placement based on track-initiation criteria

Abstract
In this paper, an optimization algorithm for multistatic sonar placement based on track-initiation criteria is proposed to solve the problem of monitoring underwater placement of the transmitters and receivers in multistatic sonar system. Two criteria are firstly derived for computing track-initiation probability under distributed and centralized tracking fusion modes in multistatic sonar system. Then, a mathematic model of placement optimization of multistatic sonar based on successful target track-initiation coverage rate is established, and the particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to obtain the optimal solution for the un-convex mathematic model, which is the global optimal placement for sources and receivers in multistatic sonar system. The simulation results indicate that the successful target track initiation coverage rate of the proposed method is much improved in comparison with the empirical methods under two tracking fusion modes in multistatic sonar system.
