Abstract
The bathymetric error of interferometric synthetic aperture sonar(InSAS) caused by sound transmission bending is analyzed in this paper.Based on the principle of the interferometric synthetic aperture sonar, the effect of range to depth ratio on the bathymetric accuracy is studied for two typical sound profiles in China shallow sea by ray acoustics. The results indicate that when the depth of water is 40m and the ratio of range to depth is between 5 and 10, an INSAS may bring 5 to 20m depth error and 1 to 3m horizon distance error. Therefore the compensation of sound ve-locity is necessary to improve the InSAS bathymetric accuracy.
